Inspecting a Ring

Insurance Appraisals

This is the most common appraisal we perform. It estimates Retail Replacement Value, which is what it would cost to replace your item with a similar one, new, in a retail setting.

Why it matters:

  • Helps resolve claims and disputes

  • Prevents overpaying for insurance premiums

  • Must be conducted by a certified, independent appraiser

Estate Jewelry Appraisals

Estate appraisals assess fair market value based on current condition and are used for:

  • Probate and trust management

  • Equitable asset distribution

  • Selling or liquidation

“Estate jewelry” refers to any pre-owned item, vintage or modern. These appraisals differ from insurance valuations and consider resale environments such as auctions, private sales, or consignment.

Diamond Ring Appraisals

Appraising a diamond ring includes the evaluation of both:

The Diamond: Weight, cut, color, clarity, enhancements, and any damage.

Side stones: Weight, Cut, Color, Clarity, Enhancements, Count, and any damage.

The Setting: Material, design, and craftsmanship.

Appraisals can support insurance needs or help establish a fair resale value.

Selling Assistance

While we don’t buy jewelry, we offer brokering services for high-end items:

  • Antique and designer jewelry

  • Loose diamonds and watches (e.g., Rolex)

  • Gold and platinum pieces

  • Broken or unwanted jewelry with value

This is separate from formal appraisals. We guide you on market options and help with discreet, efficient sales.

Appraisal cost starts at $125 per item. Items such as multi-gem necklaces, rare watches, uncertified diamonds, or diamonds exceeding three carats may cost more. You’ll be informed of any additional fees upfront. Updates to prior appraisals (within 5 years) are billed at 50% of current rates, and the piece must be brought in for review (to make sure the piece is in the same condition).

All appraisals follow:

  • USPAP standards

  • Guidelines from the American Society of Appraisers

  • Industry-recognized methods and ethics

We’re known in the Bay Area for our high integrity and professionalism.
